Lance 845 Black Water Gauge Reads Full After Detergent

Topic: Black Tank Level Sensor Aid
Posted Past: jwadd on 07/31/08 03:08pm I take a 2003 Eagle Cap 950. I am having trouble with the Blackness Tank sensor. It e'er reads 2/3 full when empty. Except one time, when I flushed and drained the tank iii times in a row, then information technology read empty until I got to my adjacent destination and I checked information technology again - (two/iii total). I have rinsed the tank, flushed the tank, collection around with ice cubes in the tank and information technology still reads 2/3 full when empty. Any ideas? Could information technology be as uncomplicated as a loose wire on the outside of the tank? What exercise I bank check adjacent?

Posted By: pigman1 on 07/31/08 03:18pm What you're experiencing is a terribly designed system that only about never works right without constant attention. The just reason RV manufacturers use information technology is because it's clay inexpensive.

The first thing I replaced on the new Allegro bus was the tank indicating system. There are a few out there. On my last Grade A I used one from Serpent River Electronics and the ane on the Bus is a SeeLevel by Garnet Instruments. The reason I used the SeeLevel was so I could put an additional indicator console in the moisture bay. In one case these outside the tank systems are installed, there is NO maintenance. They use the currently installed wiring, and are a relatively like shooting fish in a barrel install for a handy person.

Posted By: skipbee on 07/31/08 03:28pm At that place are several flushing spray systems that you may be able fit to your black tank. When yous dump you hook up a shot hose and spray into the tank hopfully cleaning the sensors. Before I had this system I used a spinning head wand that with hose atteached I stuck down the toilet. We also could put a purse of ice downwardly the basin and drive effectually that would assistance to clean it. Always dump with a full tank add together water if needed that also helps.

Posted By: Eycom on 07/31/08 04:17pm Been there, done that. Got a Sani-Flush and all that happy horse...! Finally, I covered the sensor low-cal on the monitoring panel with a small piece of blackness electric tape until I could overcome my compulsive anal business organisation for a low-cal that is near E'er wrong. In the end, the black tank notwithstanding holds and empties 24 gallons with far less stress, expense, and piece of work. I know some 'idiot' lights are critical, but that own't ane of 'em. RV'n is supposed to exist fun and I pass up to allow one little calorie-free to ruin it for me. YMMV... LOL!

Posted Past: skipbee on 07/31/08 04:31pm Yeah I agree, roofing the indicator light is a good solution. When we used to wing charters into the Islands, information technology was SOP to chew glue, to utilize to cover blinking lights on the panel which could be seen by the customers.
Posted By: TwoMaineiacs on 07/31/08 05:03pm 2d TC - neither black tank indicator has e'er worked correctly. After a while you just learn how often you need to dump it. Forget information technology and enjoy the TC. Never thought about just covering upward the indicator light. Smart!

Posted By: PJ Colahan on 07/31/08 05:32pm I likewise have the same problem. Sometimes it read correctly and other times..... well.
I am getting ready for our trip to Oregon next week. Will exist loading the camper on the truck. One of the projects will be to fill the tank one-half way and dump the water ice in. Also been told that calculation a 1/2 cup of material softener from the laundry helps lubricate and loosen stuck sensors.
I'll let y'all know if it works.
I bought one of those rotating spray heads to affluent the tank. Later on I got information technology I couldn't discover anyplace to admission the tank to install information technology without removing the tank first. The heck with that. If it ways a bad reading sensor and so and so be information technology.
Expert luck.

Posted By: jwadd on 07/31/08 06:07pm Thank you everyone. I guess I just await things to work. I have my ringlet of black record and am ready to but ignore it. The sun is bright and the beer is common cold.
Posted By: Mainecoon on 07/31/08 08:29pm Just had my Okanagan for i yr and it has same problem. I well keep watching this topic to run into what others have to say. Existence new to using a truck camper this forum has been a groovy help.
Posted By: DeutscheMan on 08/01/08 08:57am Two Lance campers, and an Artic Fox Travel trailer....They all accept the same problem. San-t-affluent organisation, if yous flush for say, twenty minutes volition usually clear the sensors, but who wants to waste that much water? Flashlight looking downwardly the hole is the best way. Don't rely on the idiot lights. Black tanks empty more efficiently when they are full and accept a lot of water. Y'all are more than likely to take fake sensor readings after dumping a partially full tank, considering not all the paper or solids are forced out.

Posted By: petekerwien on 08/01/08 09:26am Purse of ice while you are going downward the road. The ice wil gear up it for you.
Posted Past: Sand Cadger on 08/01/08 09:27am I'm glad this is a common problem, non that I was losing whatsoever sleep over it but information technology was getting under my skin a chip considering the TC is not nonetheless a year sometime. Will try the ice...if that dosn't piece of work looking down the "shoot" works for me.
Posted By: jjohnson1179 on 08/01/08 09:43am United nations hook the middle sensor and the light will no longer work

Posted By: Alschott on 08/02/08 06:25pm Another fix for you lot more techy types would be to purchase a sensor from GEMS Sensors in CT - they make a ultrasonic stickon blazon that doesn't go into the tank. Costly little bugger, but if y'all actually want to know when the tank is total, that will work.
I like the look into the tank via the tiolet method myself, just a tad cheapa.

Posted Past: Paoli on 08/01/08 09:51am I had a warning calorie-free come on in my truck and I put a black piece of tape over it.
That was ii years and 40.000 miles ago. I'grand all the same driving the truck, it's doing just fine.
Posted By: Trail Traveler on 08/02/08 06:03pm After trying all kinds of things to go along my black and grey h2o tank level gauges working, I call up I have establish a reliable process. It'south true that you can just wait in the toilet and come across where the black tank level is and that'southward a very proficient thing! However, if you apply one of the wands you insert through the toilet at full water line pressure, you tin can continue your black tank clean. I detest doing it because you take to take the screen off the sleeping room window and drag a hose through the RV, but it does clean the tank well and keeps the estimate working like new.

After near 3 years of light use, my grey water tank approximate stopped working correctly. I tried the Thetford tank sensor cleaner repeatedly merely to no avail. What others accept said nigh not leaving the valve open is the key. I now leave the valve airtight until the tank is full. Each time I empty the tank, I close the drain valve and add together a few ounces of Dawn diswashing liquid to the kitchen sink drain and wash information technology downwards with hot water. After just a few cycles, the judge started reading relaibly again. I also leave some of this solution in the tank when the trailer is in storage (until winter). Just like the black tank, the residues in the grayness water tank shouldn't exist allowed to dry out and turn to concrete. That's my story and I'm stickin' with it.

Posted Past: BirdSongPlace on 08/02/08 07:47pm I use to be concerned about how inaccurate our sensors are. ( Heck, the grayness sensor sometimes said ii/3 with the greyness valve open! )
Later on nosotros had the camper for awhile I was able to pretty accurately judge how full the tanks were. You know your own habits and water usage patterns and information technology's not likewise hard to guess how full they are condign. In our camper I tin HEAR a difference when flushing or using the sink.
